OUR MUSICAL DIRECTOR is Lindsay Blay (January 2024 to the present)
|
Our Musical Director Lindsay grew up in Suffolk and started singing at an early age. She sang with the Olive Quantrill Singers, the Jubilee Choir and the vocal ensemble Front Porch Harmony. She also played violin with the Suffolk Schools orchestra.
She went on to study at London University and the Royal Academy of Music where she won the Mozart prize, received second prize at the National English Song Award, and also studied at the Britten Pears School. She has worked as a singer for many years, performing in venues across the UK, and has also worked with the BBC Singers. More recently, Lindsay has been a member of the visiting music staff at Ipswich School. Lindsay has conducted several choirs and ensembles including a 70 strong teenage choir and the ensemble Capella Nova, formerly of Amberfield School, directing them in performances at Snape Maltings, on BBC Radio Suffolk and Radio 4, and with the vocal group Blake on their UK tour. Lindsay has a passion for sharing her love of singing with others - "We`ve heard about the many benefits of singing, it reduces stress, aids memory, and it allows you to express yourself, but putting it very simply, it just makes you feel better...." Lindsay took over from Chandra Grover as Musical Director in January 2024, following Chandra's retirement from the Birkbeck Singers in December 2023. |
